Monthly Newsletter!
I know this letter is reaching you a little later than usual, but it has been a busy time as we approach the end of the semester. December has been an exciting month for the arts, with the results of the Reflections Art Competition, our Educational Service Center Art Show, and Scholastic submissions.
There has been an incredible amount of creativity and talent on display this year! While it’s challenging to feature all 130 students I have this semester, please know that your student is doing wonderful work in class and contributing to the vibrant art community we’re building together.
Wishing you a joyful holiday season and a creative New Year!
HELP!
It’s that time of year when students are battling colds and sniffles. While we do our best to keep the classroom healthy and comfortable, we’ve run out of essentials like tissues and Clorox wipes. If you have an extra box or two to spare, it would be a huge help in getting us through the season.
Feeling extra generous? Check out our Amazon wish list for some items we’d love to have in the classroom. Thank you so much for your kindness and support!
Supplies!
Do you have any extra art or crafting supplies at home? If so, we’d greatly appreciate donations for our art room! We’re always in need of materials like scrapbook paper, paint, stamps, coloring supplies, and other art items.
If you happen to have any old wall art (framed or on canvas) that you no longer need, we’d love to give it new life in our projects. Feel free to send these items in with your student—your support makes a big difference. Thank you so much!
ESC ART SHOW!
This month, we held our first art show at the Educational Service Center, where we had the privilege of honoring some of our amazing art students! This show is a collaborative effort, featuring artwork from elementary, middle, and high school students.
The exhibit will be up until January, and the attached video showcases the incredible work displayed in the show. If your student wasn’t featured this time, don’t worry—there are still two more school art shows coming up this year! Stay tuned for more opportunities to celebrate our talented artists!

In Photo 1 this month, students explored a wide range of creative projects that allowed them to branch out with their subject matter. They designed album covers of their choice, created meaningful family heritage projects, and learned how to capture interest in mundane objects through photography.
We also delved deeper into camera functions, experimenting with techniques like slow shutter speeds and light painting. These activities gave students the chance to expand their skills and creativity in exciting and innovative ways!

In Photo 2, students tackled longer, more in-depth projects this semester, focusing on conceptual thinking and storytelling through photography. They worked on creating photo series based on ideas and concepts, learning how to convey meaning and emotion through their images.
Additionally, students explored studio lighting techniques, discovering how to use light to enhance their photos and create visual interest. To cap it off, they researched modern photographers and took on the challenge of recreating a photo in the style of their chosen artist, showcasing both their technical and creative growth.

Art and Design
This month in Art and Design, students explored a variety of exciting projects across ceramics, painting, sculpture, and design.
In ceramics, students created hollow forms and designed unique characters of their choosing. In painting, they learned how to use acrylics to create textures, applying their skills by recreating a masterpiece and adding their own creative twist.
We also introduced interior design, where students began constructing detailed rooms using paper and cardboard, combining creativity with structural design. It’s been an inspiring month full of artistic growth!

AP Art
In AP Art, we’ve spent the past few months diving deep into understanding the concept of a sustained investigation and what it entails. Students have been refining their plans for exploration, setting the foundation for the rest of the semester.
Their dedication to experimenting, practicing, and revising has truly paid off, with their first four projects turning out beautifully. Below, you can see some of their impressive final projects—an inspiring showcase of their hard work and creativity!
